Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is frequently utilized to alleviate mild to moderate anxiety in children during dental procedures. It is administered through a small mask that is placed over your child’s nose, providing an effective method to calm their anxiety. Your child will be instructed to breathe through their nose rather than their mouth. As the gas takes effect, your child will feel a sense of calmness while remaining awake and able to communicate with the dentist.

Towards the end of your child’s appointment, they will inhale pure oxygen for at least five minutes, allowing the effects of nitrous oxide to dissipate completely. As your child grows older and becomes more comfortable with dental visits, the use of nitrous oxide may no longer be necessary.
